The Mary Drew School of Dance in cooperation with the Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the "Spring" Recital on Saturday, May 19th at 1pm in the Veazie Community School. Come enjoy the dance styles of all of the School's levels from Preschool to High School ages.

Easter Egg Hunt- Saturday April 7th !

Come out and join our special guests, the Easter Bunny and Monty Moose from the University Credit Union as we look for eggs, get our face painted and have a ballon animal made by Flip the Clown at the Annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, April 7th 10am at the Asa Adams School in Orono.

This event is open to all 2 yrold - 4th grade "Eggsperts" and will be held rain, snow or shine ! Children will also be eligible for prizes such as Easter Baskets, large size coloring books and two brand new bicycles. This event is sponsored by the University Credit Union and the Orono Parks and Recreation Department. Chef On Demand Announces Classes

Orono Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with Chef Cliff Richards will be offering three exciting cooking classes. Chef Richards is owner/operator of "Chef On Demand" and will be offering a "Knife Technique and Chicken for Protein" class March 8th from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Tredwell Building. This class will discuss knives, how to choose the best knife for the task at hand. Chef Richards will also break down an entire chicken and discuss great ideas for each part. Students go home with details about knife selection and care as well as recipes and instructions for some excellent dishes. The class is only $10 / residents and $15 / non-residents.

April 5th - Knife Techniques with Beef, Vegetable and Grains

May 3rd - Utilization of all skills to demonstrate Stuffed Pork

This Valentine Dance is open to all families and children in kindergarten through 5th grade but is sold out quickly so don't delay sign up today !

The Dance from 6:30-8:30 pm Friday February 10th at the KACH is designed for children in kindergarten through 5th grade and their families. The evening includes music by DJ Services of "Fast Dogs", refreshments, snacks, and sweet treats along with prizes. This memorable evening is only $15 per resident family and $25 non-resdient family.

Mantis Yoga for Kids

4-6pm Selling raffle tickets to be used for drawings in some of the local shops. Participating shops - Judy's Stampin & Scrapin, Fiberphilia,Rose Bike Shop, Fire Sign, DeGrasse Jewerly, Metropolitian Soul and Ampersand/The Store.

4:30-5 pm OHS Chorus entertains the crowd with Holiday carols

5:00 pm Santa arrives in the Katahdin site lot to light the Holiday Tree

5:15 Santa and his elves along with all the children march down to Judy's Workshop. Each child has a chance to sit with Santa and receive a holiday treat

5:30-6 pm The roaming carolers bring the Holiday spirit downtown.

5:30 toast marshmellows at Rose's Bike Shop

Hot chocolate and cookies will be available throughout the event at various locations. At 6:30 pm the merchants will draw the raffle

Watercolors For Kids DEC.-JAN. 2011-2012

Orono Parks and Recreation is sponsoring Watercolor for Kids taught by Janice

Hambelton. Janice has been painting for many years and is an active participant

in the Bangor Sidewalk Art Festival. Her art work is on display in the Tredwell

Building as well as on her website: wwwdreamsbyjanice.com.

Grades 3-5 Monday and Wednesdays 3:30-5:00 pm

Dec. 5, 7, 12, 14, 21, Jan. 4, 9, 11

Come and join Janice as you paint the outdoors. This will include houses, trees, water, and maybe even a deer. Color contrast will be emphasized in this class. Wonderful holiday gifts as well.

Home School Tuesday, Dec. 6, 13, 20, 27 10:00-11:30 am

Homeschoolers will be painting a Winter Wonderland with snowmen and much much more. P.S. These paintings will make great holiday gifts.

Orono Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registrations for the Rec Basketball Program designed for kindergarten through 5th grade. The Program will emphasize skills, basketball knowledge and team play. The k-1st grade program is primarily instructional and meets only on Saturdays from 8:30-9:30 am while the 2nd-3rd grade and 4th-5th will be placed on boys and girls teams to practice and play in games with teams from Veazie Rec and Bangor Parks and Recreation.

X-Country Ski Equipment Rental !!!

Calling All Ski Enthusiasts -

On Friday, November 4th from 3-4:30pm the Maine Winter Sports staff will conduct a registration and fitting for X-country ski equipment in the Tredwell Building, 8 Bennoch Road. The rental program is open to youth in kindergarten through 8th grade and provides each young skier with boots, skis and poles for only $55. The rental program, sponsored through Maine Winter Sports Center allows your skier the opportunity to try this wonderful Maine winter activity without the big cash layout for equipment (plus your son or daughter is still growing)

All youth will be fitted and an adult must fill out the rental form. Payment is expected the day of the fitting and can be made payble to the Orono Parks and Rec Department. FMI contact the Rec Office at 866-5065.

The Municipal Pool is open from June 22 through August 27, 2011.

Daily Pool Fees: Mature Swimmer $2.00; Young Swimmer (under 15) $1.00; Experienced Swimmer (over 55) $1.00.

Pool Season Passes are available: Individual - $35; Family Pass for 4 - $60; Family Pass for 6 - $80.
